FLY TO PORTO, PORTUGAL
Porto is a charming, magical European city founded in the year 1132. It is also the biggest city hub closest to the wedding venue! There is an international airport in Porto with the code: OPO. FYI Portugal is in the GMT time zone.
We highly recommend arriving to Porto before Tuesday, July 25th, as this is the day the celebrations begin in Amares. The wedding venue (in Amares) is about an hour outside of Porto.
Porto has many reasonable options for hotels and AirBnbs. As the city is old, so are some of the buildings. Before booking, it may be worth double checking that there is an elevator for upper floors. By the way, our favorite area to stay is along the riverfront on the Vila Nova de Gaia side (with a view of Porto).
On Sunday, July 23rd we are planning optional group activities including:
Boat ride along the Douro River
Wine tasting
Nick and Jonathan haven't done either of these activities yet in Porto, so will it be a first time for everyone?!
We will send more details on these activities along with additional recommendations closer to the date. Did you know Nick took the above photo from the Clérigos Tower? It's definitely worth a visit, even if you don't go all the way to the top!
RENT A CAR?
You probably don't need to rent a car. Ubers are plentiful and reasonably priced.
If you do decide to rent a car, don't forget to research where you will be able to park if staying in Porto.
UBERS!
Ubers are a safe and convenient mode of transportation from and to the airport, as well as to navigate around within the respective cities.
WALKING
Walking in Porto allows you to see small neighborhood parks, bridges, and the quaint narrow unique city streets. Some areas are quite hilly. If there's a steep walk ahead of you, then just grab a short Uber ride to the next destination - the locals do the same!
OTHER?!
Trolleys, buses and funiculars are other fun modes of transportation when touring the beautiful city of Porto. Look up and around, you may see one whizzing by!
